Neck Liposuction in Cleveland, OH
Neck liposuction is often performed as an adjunct rejuvenation procedure for older patients undergoing facelift, neck lift or chin and jawline augmentation. However, many younger patients with less advanced facial aging are often concerned about isolated excess fatty tissue in the submental neck. This isolated submental fat, or “wattle”, may be out of proportion to the amount of fatty tissue in the rest of the face and neck. In fact, many patients concerned about excess neck fat are often active, physically fit and otherwise thin. This unfortunate appearance may actually be the result of inherited traits. Neck liposuction, often referred to as submental liposuction, improves the appearance of the neck by removing the excess fatty tissue.
Who is a Candidate for Neck Liposuction Surgery?
Healthy men and women with appropriate expectations who are bothered by excess fat of the neck may be excellent candidates for neck liposuction.
How is Neck Liposuction Surgery Performed?
Neck liposuction is performed in the outpatient setting under local anesthesia. A very small incision is hidden in a natural skin crease beneath the chin and a liposuction cannula, only a few millimeters in diameter, is inserted. Gentle suction is applied and the fat is gently suctioned away. The incisions are closed with small sutures and a soft head wrap dressing is placed.
What is the Recovery like from Neck Liposuction Surgery?
Neck liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis and patients may return to the comfort of their own home within a few hours. All patients are encouraged to be up and about with assistance on the day of surgery. The dressing is removed by Dr. Harmych on the day after the neck liposuction procedure. Prescription pain medication may be required for 1-3 days. Mild soreness and bruising may last several weeks. Most patients feel confident returning to their public and social lives in about a week. Activity is restricted for one week and full activity may be resumed in 2-3 weeks.
