Microneedling in Cleveland, Ohio

Microneedling in Cleveland, Ohio

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling with Bellus SkinPen Precision allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair process by creating thousands of precise micro-injuries in the dermis, automatically triggering new collagen synthesis without causing scar tissue formation. The variable depth (.25mm to 2.5mm) of the SkinPen Precision microneedling device provide significant versatility to create change in many areas of the body, including the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.

What is the most commonly used device for Microneedling?

SkinPen Precision is a medical grade, state-of-the-art microneedling device used at Harmych Facial Plastic Surgery. The SkinPen Precision microneedling device is designed to reverse years of sun damage, improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks, and hyperpigmentation as well as enhance the overall appearance of aging skin.

How long does a microneedling treatment take?

The actual procedure typically takes about 30 minutes depending on the size and number of areas treated and the severity of damage on the skin. The treated areas are numbed with a topical anesthetic prior to treatment. Patients undergoing microneedling should plan on being in the office for a total of 45 minutes.

Is there any discomfort or pain with microneedling in Cleveland, Ohio?

No. Microneedling is not painful. A topical numbing cream is applied to the skin about 20 to 30 minutes before the microneedling treatment. In fact, most patients describe the sensation of microneedling as pleasant.

What is the expected down time after microneedling in Cleveland, Ohio?

Most patients resume full activity in less than 24 hours. Redness, mild skin irritation and mild peeling may occur for about 2 or 3 days. After 24 hours makeup can be applied to conceal the redness and peeling.

When will I see results from microneedling?

Microneedling stimulates formation of new collagen and organization of existing collagen by causing damage to the deep layers of the skin through very small microscopic punctures. The process of new collagen formation and improvement of existing collagen is a process that takes a few weeks to months to complete. Therefore, unlike other skin care treatments, the results from microneedling are not seen immediately.

How many microneedling treatments are needed before I see results?

Results from microneedling are frequently seen after only 1 treatment. However, the best results are achieved after a series of at least 3 microneedling treatments. More difficult problems, such as acne scarring, may require 3-6 treatments.

How long will the results from microneedling last?

Since microneedling is a collagen-inducing therapy the results are permanent.

How can the results of Microneedling be improved?

The results of microneedling can be improved using platelet rich plasma (PRP). We are now offering microneedling treatments with platelet rich plasma. PRP is obtained by drawing a small amount of blood prior to the microneedling treatment. That plasma is separated from the red blood cells using a centrifuge and specially filtered test tubes. The PRP is applied directed to the treated areas of the face during the microneedling treatment.
