How is a Lip Lift Performed?
A lip lift, or subnasal lip lift, is performed in the outpatient setting under local anesthesia or light sedation, depending on the patient’s preference. Tiny incisions are created in the natural skin creases at between the base of the nose and upper lip and a small amount of skin and soft tissue are removed. Sutures are then placed in order to gently elevate the upper lip to a more youthful position.
Lip lift is often performed with facelift, deep plane facelift, and mini facelift.
What is recovery like from a Lip Lift?
The procedure is done on an outpatient basis with most patients returning to the comfort of their own home within a few hours. There is minimal pain and many patients do not require prescription pain medication. Mild bruising and swelling last about a week. Any sutures that have not fallen out on their own are removed at the one week follow up appointment. Makeup and other cosmetic products may be used near and on the lips after sutures are removed.
