Lip Augmentation in Beachwood, OH
Due to their distinct color and importance in both verbal and non-verbal communication, the lips are often the focus of our attention. Full, symmetric, well-defined and well-proportioned lips are one of the hallmarks of youth and beauty. These qualities are often disrupted during the aging process. For younger patients disturbances in symmetry, fullness and definition may be congenital or inherited. For many patients, Non-surgical lip injection work very well. However, non-surgical lip injections are temporary and need to be repeated to maintain their benefits. Lip augmentation offers a permanent solution for patients who desire to restore volume, symmetry and definition to the lips.
Who is a Candidate for Lip Augmentation?
Healthy patients seeking to permanently add volume, fullness, and definition to the lips may be good candidates for lip augmentation.
How is Lip Augmentation Performed?
Lip augmentation is performed in the outpatient setting under local anesthesia or light sedation, depending on the patient’s preference. A soft, flexible silicone implant is gently placed through very small incisions hidden at the corner of the mouth. One small absorbable stitch is placed at each incision.
What Should I Expect After Lip Augmentation Surgery?
Patients are instructed to avoid eating and drinking until numbness resolves. Ice is applied to the lips after the procedure and helps to minimize bruising and swelling. A soft diet is encouraged for the first week. Swelling usually lasts 7-10 days and can be treated with cold compresses. Any sutures that have not been dissolved are removed at the one week follow up appointment. Makeup and other cosmetic products may be used near and on the lips after sutures are removed. Most patients return to their occupational and social activities in about one week.
